Overview:

This position is wholly responsible for the maintenance, support, and ongoing operations of the network, Servers, and data center, security, enterprise applications, and databases at George Eastman House in Rochester, NY.  The duties are those of a traditional Network and System Admin and DBA for a primarily Windows environment in the context of a small Museum/Historic House.  This position is also responsible for monitoring security, performance, and capacity of George Eastman House's operating systems and applications running on all Servers and our wide and local area networks, and wireless networks. Tasks may include deploying, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining an active data network, applications, and related equipment.  In addition, this position participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.  He/she also ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.  This position will assist project teams with technical issues and will potentially lead/manage technology projects.  These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life cycle; technical analysis and design; and executing, testing and rolling out the solutions.  

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for monitoring security, performance, and capacity of George Eastman House's operating systems and applications running on all Servers and our wide and local area networks, and wireless networks. Tasks may include deploying, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining an active data network, applications, and related equipment.
  2. Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.  Ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.
  3. Assist project teams with technical issues and will potentially lead/manage technology projects.  These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life cycle; technical analysis and design; and executing, testing and rolling out the solutions. 
  4. Additional responsibilities to include:

Major Duties:

  • Network. Responsible for planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), wireless networks across the organization.
  • Enterprise Servers, Databases and Applications. Responsible for administration, maintenance and management of Enterprise Servers, Databases and Applications. 
  • Information Security. Responsible for establishing an information security program and protocol across the organization.
  • Networking Applications and tools. Responsible for administration and maintenance of network Routers, Switches, Firewall, etc.
  • Backup.  Responsible for data backup and retrieval (and related policies), and for logging and reporting/analysis of server/network status on a regular basis to the Director of Information and Interpretive Technology.
  • Documentation. Responsible for developing and maintaining IT and user policies, procedures, and SLAs for server, network, security, and databases.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Servers, Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Install, configure, and maintain networks, network cabling, Routers, Switches, Fortinet:  Firewalls, VPN access, Cisco ASA.
  • Install, configure, and maintain an information security program for all aspects of digital data at George Eastman House.
  • Serve as the primary system and network support person at George Eastman House.  Duties include:
    • Proactive monitoring of overall network/server health.
    • Resolve problems relating to our network/server infrastructure.
    • Provide leadership for network/server design and support
    • Ongoing design and improvement of our network/server environment
    • Documenting all changes to any system in change control system
    • Provide project management for network/server related projects
    • Establish security protocols
    • Participate in any IT Infrastructure projects
    • Must be able to document the environment, including project plans, network diagrams

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Post high school education required.
  2. Must have a minimum of 3 years as a lead Systems Administrator and Network Administrator in a Windows environment.
  3. Must have experience and knowledge in Cisco and HP networking equipment, Windows Server OS, Windows SQL Server, Active Directory, SQL and ODBC, and SAN/virtual environments.  Certifications preferred.
  4. Must be able to document a network and make proposals and recommendations to a variety of levels of technical abilities.
  5. Experience with Fortinet Firewalls, VMware, and non-windows server environments preferred
