PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Cancer Bioinformatics is an information initiative of the National Cancer Institute Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (NCI CBIIT). Will support multiple Cancer Research projects in support of a wide range of bioinformatics tools geared toward supporting the most urgent and challenging research and development needs of the National Cancer Institute.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful applicant will be responsible for developing multiple projects from inception to delivery that will deliver open source software products in the cancer research and computational biology in multiple settings including standards harmonization, coding, and/or semantic metadata modeling. Responsibilities may include: designing and writing production-ready code and unit testing to meet software technical and business requirements; developing bioinformatics applications utilizing technologies such as Core Java, J2EE, EJBs, Java Patterns, SOAP, WSDL, XSDs, and REST; developing bioinformatics applications utilizing technologies such as Servlets, JSP, EJB, Struts, JSF, Spring; developing data architecture and data modeling; using Scrum/Agile and RUP to manage software development life cycle; reviewing user requirements (use cases) and translating them into analysis and implementation models; providing development support from inception to transition phases of software development; and giving technical talks and conducting software development workshops.
Qualifications:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Biomedical Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Care Informatics or related field or 4 years of related experience.
- Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of 6 years of relevant software development experience developing database driven applications using Java, with knowledge of clinical informatics or biomedical informatics systems.
- The candidate must be familiar with the full Software Development Lifecycle from inception through deployment and operations and maintenance.
- The candidate must have proven successful technical experience on multiple simultaneous software development projects.
- The candidate must have a wide knowledge of open source programming and be able to easily incorporate open source technologies into existing software solutions.
- The candidate must be able to communicate with all levels of scientific personnel and administrative staff through written and oral presentations.
- The candidate must have proven exceptional oral and written communication abilities.
- The candidate must have direct experience with enterprise level architectures and Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs).
- The candidate must have direct experience with software in a production environment.
- This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree, experience with bioinformatics systems, and/or clinical trials research domain is highly desired. Experience in developing projects that involve JBoss, Spring, Hibernate, AJAX, JavaScript, SOAP, XML, XSLT, and relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL is highly desired.
- Experience with SOA, design patterns, n-tier architecture is desired.
- Experience with Interactive Cancer Research Tools, Imaging Tools, and Data Repository Tools is desired.
- Experience with CBIIT deployment environment is desired.
- Experience in deploying systems that are subject to regulatory requirements in the biomedical domain, including those that are subject to 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, FISMA, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and OMB Memorandum M-060-16 is desired
