The Global Software Engineering Manager position leads and supports product programs across 3 design centers (Salt Lake City, Bangalore India, and Beijing China) with cross-functional team leaders and individuals to meet customer requirements for product quality, cost, to ensure that new product development is done on-time, to right quality and cost. This position will report to the U.S. Executive for Product Design and Development. Essential Responsibilities: Duties & experience include (but are not limited to):
- Lead and grow a team of 80-100 global software engineers ensuring personal development for each individual tied the execution of all NPI & IB software programs
- This position will work closely with the Chief Engineer for Software & Systems Design to ensure the integrity of the platform is maintained throughout program execution.
- Support the strategy and direction of the business tied to Set Based Design principles while driving continuous improvement of systems, products and processes
- Functional leadership of the team, including recruitment, team/talent development, skill set improvement, and mentoring all tied to results and retention
- Resource assignment and prioritization including headcount and base cost budget for the entire global software team
- Embedded software experience required as well as a strong understanding of Agile and Waterfall software design methodologies and the ability to teach others.
- Instilling a rigorous approach to target costing for new products and driving cost out of existing products
- Deep understanding of software development and systems integration in an electromechanical computing architecture.
- Leading change through creative solutions to unstructured product and system design issues
- Optimizing team's participation in all phases of product development
- Supporting existing products within Manufacturing, Sourcing, Service and Supplier Quality Engineering
Quality Specific Goals:
1. Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
2. Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
3. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
4. Drive compliance/closure of Regulatory and Quality requirements before approving Design Outputs/Program Deliverables
5. Identify continuous improvement activities by initiating the implementation of process and product quality improvement initiatives Qualifications/Requirements: 1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or, or Physics, or equivalent experience
2. 10 years progressive engineering work experience
3. 6 years project management or direct or indirect people leadership experience
4. Experience in leading global teams of software developer with the ability to grow both individuals as well as the team
5. Embedded systems software development experience.
