Job Description
The LATAM Linux Administrator serves as a key element within the Rackspace support infrastructure and provides a high level of technical support to our Latin American (LATAM) customers over the phone and via support tickets. Applies creative problem-solving techniques to identify the source of problems, while at the same time keeping the customer aware of every step along the way via the ticketing system. Uses initiative and advises on potential pitfalls that a customer may experience using existing or planned methods and suggests alternatives that may better serve the stability and security of the customer's solution. Proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. Coordinates terminal orders and cable installation, network system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing. Approves action requests and specifies purchase requirements. Defines, designs and implements network communications and solutions using the LINUX platform. Solves customer's technical issues that can include OS level, webserver, database server, applications server, DNS, SMTP or other software issue. Understand how to manage disk I/O and memory usage, and how to evaluate and implement hot fixes or patches
Responsibilities:
- Controls call flow for the support team.
- Monitors Rackwatch alerts and create tickets accordingly.
- Handles level-appropriate customer support requests via the ticket system.
- Escalates support requests according to escalation procedures.
- Schedules and coordinates level-appropriate maintenance.
- Troubleshoots and resolves system service issues and OS level issues.
- Creates and maintains customer loyalty by serving customers above an beyond their expectations.
- Due to the 24x7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Generalknowledge of servers/computer hardware and software.
- General knowledge of Linux Kernel, Configuration Management, Database Administration, Firewalls, Backups, Caching, HTML, CDN, SSL Certificates, Storage, Web Scripting, and Packet analysis required.
- Basic knowledge of HTTP, FTP, High Availability, Hardware, Virtualization, Load Balancing, Networking, Patching, Performance Monitoring, RAID, Security, Web servers, Cluster management, SQL queries, DNS, and Systems Optimization required.
- Prefer knowledge of Rackspace Could Products.
- Drive to continually expand knowledge in the areas of new technological developments and trends.
- Attention to detail in documenting information and good follow through techniques.
- Solid problem-solving abilities coupled with a desire to take on responsibility.
- Strong written and verbal skills in Spanish and/or Brazilian Portuguese
- Must be able to provide service in Spanish and/or Brazilian Portuguese.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience preferred
- Any technical certifications a plus
- Familiarity with Latin American markets and business culture.
