Job Description

We are looking for a Linux System Administrator who will be a key element within the Rackspace support infrastructure and is expected to provide a high level of technical support to our customers over the phone and via support tickets. A System Administrator is responsible for complex customer issues which may take several days or weeks to resolve. The Administrator applies creative problem-solving techniques to identify the source of problems; as well as keeping the customer aware of every step along the way via the ticketing system.

Responsibilities:

- Provides basic troubleshooting of system services (ie, Apache, SMTP, POP, IMAP, HW, RHN, mail transfer agents)
- Provides basic log troubleshooting and knowledge of restarting services, install or remove RPM's and add IP's
- Knowledge of common service ports
- Ability to use ssh/sftp
- Provides basic user administration (add/delete user, change passwords, group administration)
- Controls call flow for the support team
- Monitors Rackwatch alerts and create tickets accordingly
- Handles level-appropriate customer support requests via the ticket system
- Escalates support requests (phone/ticket) according to escalation procedures
- Schedules and coordinates level-appropriate maintenance
- Provides basic troubleshooting of system. Creates and maintains customer loyalty by serving customers above and beyond their expectations Exercises judgment in decision-making in order to routinely deliver FANATICAL customer support
- Due to the 24x7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc. Validate monitoring alerts, create support tickets as required and execute predefined troubleshooting instructions

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following:

- Requires 0-1 year working in a computer technical field with customer service experience
- Must have previous Linux experience in Basic Principles
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent work experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of SMTP/POP/IMAP
- Basic knowledge of system services (ie, Apache, HW, RHN, Postfix configuration)
- Basic knowledge of mail transfer agents
- Basic configuration skills of FTP server
- Basic knowledge of common configuration locations: Apache, MySQL, FTP, Postfix, Sendmail, SSH, PHP
- Ability to provide high level overview of how the Internet operates
- Basic networking understanding of firewalls and load balancers
- Understand file system structures
- Must be able to navigate CLI interface
- Good understanding of IFT Processes
- Ability to add routes and keep routes after boot
