As a Software Development Manager, you thrive on the most intense aspects of solving problems in unique ways for the Rackspace Open Cloud. As Software Development Manager, you are responsible for developing and maintaining the brain (our data) and nervous system (our core applications) of the Rackspace Open Cloud. You are central to the day-to-day success of our Rackers and most importantly our Customers!

In this role you will:

, Manage and participate in the day-to-day operations of one or more teams of software developers.
, Manage all the operational aspects of the software development teams to ensure business and product objectives are met.
, Partner with product management to define product roadmaps and feature requirements.
, Provide administrative, technical, and people leadership for multiple, diverse, and sometimes geographically distributed teams.
, Provide feedback to the team and individuals on their performance.
, Coach and guide teams to enable successful outcomes.
, Lead initiatives that move us into repeatable, automated, and continuous integration and delivery processes.
, Lead quality initiatives that enhance test driven development, defensive coding, self-healing code, and extraordinary test coverage.
, Transform logging and monitoring efforts.

Qualifications:
, Experience building high performance web applications at scale- Bachelor,s degree in Computer Science or a related field; Master,s degree preferred
, Experience in managing team/s
, Minimum of 3+ years experience managing software developers
, Product Development Experience
, At least 2 years of experience managing midsized to large enterprise systems
, Exceptional management and people skills, ability to manage personnel activities of staff (eg, hires, mentors, coach, trains, appraises, rewards, motivates, and disciplines, and recommends termination as necessary, 1-on-1's, Performance Reviews, etc of his direct reports)
, Passion for quality and continuous improvement of processes and software, well versed with software engineering practices (eg Continuous Engineering, Build/Deploy, Unit Testing, Regression Testing, Test & Staging Environments)
, Demonstrated experience leading a cross-functional team fostering innovation, creativity, and teamwork
, Excel at cross-functional collaboration and leadership
, Agile processes (Scrum, XP, Lean, etc.)
, Partnerships with internal and external teams to deliver products, tools, and technology
, Demonstrated ability in all aspects of hiring - creating staffing plans, writing job descriptions, attracting talent, and making great hires
, Experience with product operations
, Understanding of development operations initiatives.

Experience with contributing to open source code is a plus
