Job Summary

The Database Administrator (DBA) for DB2 reports directly to the Database Administration Team Lead and will provide Database Administration Services which are those activities associated with the installation, maintenance and support of existing and future database solutions and configurations. Performs database administration assignments essential to the production and development of Database Management Systems (DBMS) applications. Assignments which are in direct support of software development and maintenance teams; include database analysis, security support, design, software use, performance monitoring and tuning, and general technical expertise. Reviews and ensures integrity via standardized support tools. Ensures and monitors that assignments are performed in accordance with database administration guidelines, standards and procedures for applications development, implementation, testing, and migration. This position is located in the Orange County Data Center in Santa Ana, California with remote virtual office as a potential option. The DBA for DB2 is responsible for providing highly responsive, flexible database administration services to the County of Orange.

Key responsibilities:

- Provide database installation, performance tuning, and high-availability design/implementation database support for County of Orange.

- Install, configure and maintain database system software to support the normal business operation of County applications and other software components associated with databases.

- Manage database security and permissions IAW County policies.

- Define and execute database startup, shutdown, performance monitoring and tuning scripts, and keep databases running at optimal performance for the required workload.

- Implement and administer appropriate database management tools across all database instances.

- Perform appropriate database sizing activities and interface with Third Parties as required.

- Execute table space reorganizations on a scheduled basis.

- Create database indexes as requested by the County.

- Create and manage database and metadata profiles.

- Proactively identify and remediate bottlenecks for all database instances.

- Resolve locking conflicts, latch contention, rollback requirements, problematic SQL/processes etc. for all database instances.

- Provide technical assistance and subject matter expertise to County applications developers and Third Party vendor support.

- Perform database restores or recovery from export dumps or backups, archived logs or SAN.

- Open, track, and manage to resolution all database Incidents and Problems.

- Perform performance testing, database tuning, and threshold activities for both ongoing and project work.

- Collaborate with County in penetration test activities and perform database tuning to mitigate security risks identified in penetration test activities.

- Periodically run tools to determine and validate database integrity.

- Achievement of critical performance metrics including all contractually required Service Level Requirements (SLRs) on a 24x7 basis are a key focus of this position.

Interfaces with customer application developers, storage system support personnel, and contract support personnel.

Qualifications:
Requirements:

- 4+ years' experience providing database administration services- preferably for DB2 environment.

- BA or BS degree or equivalent experience. Preferably in a technical field.

- Proficient in DB2 system and database administration support to CICS/DB2 online, Web/DB2 and DB2 applications and associated tools, certifications beneficial.

- Secondary proficiency Oracle and/or MS-SQL is beneficial but not required.

- Proficiency in UNIX Scripting for IBM AIX p595 environment beneficial.

- Experience working in commercial or local government business environments; experience working with Orange County preferred.

- ITIL V3 Foundations certifications beneficial.

- Excellent Communication Skills - written and oral.

- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.

- Must be flexible in outlook and attitude.

- Excellent Presentation skills and ability to present to senior management.

- Excellent planning/time management skills.

- Excellent client-facing skills.

- Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with a minimal impact on reliability.

- Location of work is Santa Ana, CA. Local candidate is preferred. Remote candidate requires up to 20% travel as required to Orange County Data Center located in Santa Ana, CA.

- California Department of Justice Background Investigation required.
