Position Purpose:
As an Infrastructure Intern, you will be assisting in designing and implementing technology solutions based on the latest Microsoft technologies. You must possess a true technical aptitude, an appreciation for the nuts and bolts of technology, and an interest in working within a team based environment. You will assist with design, install, and configure server infrastructures, assist with planning and implementing enterprise technology infrastructures, and help to develop operational solutions to manage Microsoft and multi-vendor environments. Core duties are focused on Compute Hardware (HP), NetApp SAN Storage, and Microsoft Virtualization Technologies (Hyper-V). Activities will include work in the following areas: compute and storage provisioning and automation, private cloud management, and maintain Remote Desktop Solutions.

Key Responsibilities

As an infrastructure intern you may assist in gathering and documenting requirements of new or existing infrastrucuture components. You will help to determine compatibility, security requirements, platform design, and development of deployment logistics. You may assist with designing infrastructure support, implementing and deploying infrastructure in various environments (development, test, and production).

Activities may include a broad range of tasks, including assisting with the following:
-Planning, designing, implementing and testing infrastructure changes and enhancements to the production environment
- Platform/Environment Build-outs: Migrate platforms to the latest Microsoft operating system, Storage OS and Hardware firmware updates.
- Creation of build automation and or build guides for solid, repeatable server builds and deployments.
- Server Consolidation: Maximize resources that are under-utilized to increase reliability and centralize administration
- Data Center Operations: Evaluate processes and infrastructure design to more efficiently manage operations and reduce costs while increasing predictability
- Remote Desktop Deployment: Execute large-scale Remote Desktop Deployments without productivity or data loss
- Identify operational optimizations to lower overhead
- Create training material for new platforms/client technologies

You will assist in reviewing, validating, designing, and delivering in the areas of systems analysis, systems design, systems development, and infrastructure testing and implementation.

- Intern is eager to learn and has a demonstrated interest in IT infrasturcture
- Areas of interest ideally include:
-Platform Migration and Deployments: Software and hardware installation, virtualization, storage migration and configuration, web server support, installation and maintenance of Windows operating systems, Exchange, IIS, SQL Server, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server and Windows Server, and Remote Desktop Services configuration
- Compute Maintenance: Hyper-V Clustering, redundancy design, configuration management, storage and compute capacity management.
- System Center Experience: Our system are managed via System center and moving towards a more heavily leveraging the system center suite. Experience/exposure to SCCM, SCOM and SCSM a plus. Seeking experience with automation tools especially System Center Orchestrator.
- Knowledge and proficiency in two or more of the following will be a plus:
-Infrastructure (DNS/DHCP/AD/Hyper-V/SAN)
- Architecture
- Operations Management (SCOM/SCCM/SCSM)
- Security

Required Certifications None, though relevant certifications would be a plus.

Additional Area, Region or Service Line specific requirements
-ITS Infrastructure Services, Compute Utility Intern
- Strong knowledge of highly available systems
- Knowledge related to virtualization, especially Hyper-V clusters
- Knowledge of SAN technologies, NetApp SAN a plus.
- Proficiency with PowerShell and Scripting is a plus
- Understanding of ISA, DNS or equivalent technologies
