Description:

Scottrade, Inc. has a Linux System Engineer position available in Saint Louis, MO.The main purpose of this position is to provide technical support for of all business and IT sponsored projects. This includes the configuration, management, and support for the Linux Server environment and related hardware and software.

Responsibilities:

* Perform advanced engineering and administration duties required to maintain the Red Hat Linux environment
* Provide technical expertise and perform tasks for all related infrastructure projects, including business continuity and disaster recovery
* Provide advanced level expertise in the design and maintenance required to ensure the high availablity of the Red Hat Linux environment
* Provide 24x7 support of the Red Hat Linux environment including after-hours maintenance and on-call duties
* Work closely with business, I.S. associates and outside vendors to effectively design, plan, and execute Red Hat Linux environment additions and changes
* Enforce, manage and create policies and procedures
* Assist to mentor and train team members.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Advanced knowledge of Red Hat Linux administration and tuning concepts.
* Advanced knowledge of server hardware systems.
* Knowledge of LAN/WAN concepts, DNS, Sendmail, Apache, and JBoss.
* Understanding of storage area networks and network attached storage environments.
* Experience with Virtualized Computing preferred.
* Project management and documentation skills with great attention to detail.
* Advanced communication and professional skills and the ablility to establish relationships across business units.
* Ability and willingness to continue building technical knowledge and skills.
* Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
* Advanced knowledge of Scottrade systems and associated technical dependencies preferred.
* Ability to engineer solutions within technical discipline.
* Ability to support complex service impacting issues with little to no supervision.
* Ability to mentor Analysts and Administrators to bridge technical and/or professional skills gaps.
* Ability to effectively lead major project efforts as a discipline resource.
* Ability to provide and assist with technical evaluations, POCs and/or technical recommendations..
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers or management.
* Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
* Knowledge of security administration including secure configuration based on server type.
* Solid Scripting skills with a focus on automation.
* Ability to rack 50 pound Servers as needed.
* Basic level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
* 4+ years of technical experience in current Intel/Red Hat Linux-based server design, configuration, management, troubleshooting and support, including clustered environments, and directory/security/email support and administration required.
* Experience supporting geographically dispersed production environments preferred.
* Experience supporting HA and DR strategies preferred.
* RHCE certification preferred.
