System Network Admin III for IBM AIX and/or Mainframe Servers
Job Summary
The System Network Admin III for IBM AIX and Mainframe Servers will report directly to the Infrastructure Server Team Lead and will provide central accountability for all Infrastructure Server System Administration Services which are those activities associated with the installation, maintenance and technical support of existing and future AIX-based and Mainframe-based system configurations and supporting systems Software (eg, operating systems, utilities, databases, and middleware) necessary to deliver the required Services hosted on these platforms that support customer's business applications. This is a metered Service type of operational delivery and all services will be performance measured and expected to meet defined Customer Service Level Requirements (SLRs). The position will have responsibility and Central accountability for supporting the Hosting/OS Platforms AIX and zOS. The System Network Admin III for IBM AIX and Mainframe Servers position will be the senior technical resource providing System Administration (SysAdmin) services for which the Infrastructure Server team is accountable. SysAdmin services are those activities associated with the provisioning and management of the Data Center existing and future server environment using ITIL processes. This position may be located in the Orange County Data Center in Santa Ana, California or in the Knoxville/Oak Ridge, Tennessee Metro area. The System Network Admin III for AIX and Mainframe Servers is responsible for providing highly responsive, flexible infrastructure server services to the County of Orange.
Key responsibilities:
- Provides Senior level Infrastructure Server System Administration Services to deliver IBM server based AIX/UNIX and/or Mainframe zOS server services to meet SLRs on a 7X24X365 basis.
- Provide system administration (eg configuration and performance optimization, access controls, manage files, disk space management, apply APARs, and configure and manage LPARs) and programming support for IBM UNIX (AIX 5L and 6L) and/or IBM zOS based hosting systems required to deliver services and meet SLRs.
- Review, install, configure, test, and implement new releases of AIX 6L Version 5.3 and 6.1 operating system software with a focus on using quick deployment/recovery software such as IBM's Network Installation Manager (NIM) and cloning via MKSYSB images.
- Analyze IBM pSeries Power5 and/or Power6 hardware and AIX 6L Version 6.1 and/or IBM Z9 and zOS operating system software problems.
- Provide solutions to IBM pSeries and/or Z9 Model 2996 hardware and operating system software problems by obtaining and implementing vendor corrections or developing local fixes.
- Assist operations personnel with AIX 5/6L and/or zOS system trouble-shooting and recovery.
- Develop and maintain IBM AIX 5/6L Version UNIX system utility programs and scripts in the Korn Shell (KSH) to manage the system with an emphasis on automating routine tasks.
- Develop and document operating and maintenance procedures for the IBM AIX 5/6L Version UNIX and IBM ZOS environments.
- Supports current and future Data Center infrastructure System Software (eg, operating systems, utilities, databases, and middleware) for the AIX/zOS server computing infrastructure.
- Proactively evaluate servers, identifying candidates for reduction, consolidation and virtualization.
- Install, test, and provide technical support, administration and security administration for hardware and Software to deliver services and meet SLRs.
- Install code fixes for all AIX and zOS services elements (eg, hardware, Middleware and OS Software).
- Provide onsite support as required and coordinate with third party provider for ticket resolution (eg Support third party remote diagnose, coordinate third party installation, perform physical parts replacement, etc) for AIX and zOS based hosting systems.
- Document and maintain in the Policies, Standards and Procedures Manual Data Center operational procedures for the AIX/zOS Infrastructure Server System Administration services team.
- Interfaces with storage system support personnel, ITSM service delivery leadership, and contract support personnel.
Required Experience:
- Two (2) years experience in the last five (5) years as a systems administrator installing, configuring, and updating the AIX Version 6.1 and/or IBM zOS operating systems.
- Two (2) years experience in the last five (5) years as a senior AIX and/or IBM zOS systems administrator managing Servers in an environment consisting of 20 or more servers.
- One (1) year experience developing and implementing Unix Korn Shell (KSH) and/or Perl scripts for automation of system monitoring and maintenance procedures.
- One (1) year experience with Logical Partitioning and Virtualization on IBM pSeries Power5 systems.
- One (1) year of experience in the last two (2) years configuring local and SAN storage on AIX 5/6L systems using Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and Object Data Manager (ODM).
- One (1) year of experience in performance tuning on AIX 5/6L using the VMO, IOO, NO, NFSO and related AIX performance tuning commands.
- Experience working in commercial or local government business environments; experience working with Orange County beneficial.
- Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with a minimal impact on reliability.
Desired Experience:
- 7+ years' experience providing infrastructure server system administration services for IBM AIX and/or zOS server computing environments.
Qualifications:
Required:
- BA or BS degree or equivalent experience. Preferably in a technical field.
- Excellent Communication Skills - written and oral.
- Excellent planning/time management and client-facing skills.
- California Department of Justice Background Investigation required.
Desired:
- IBM Certified Systems Administrator
- ITIL V3 Foundations certifications beneficial.
