The Professional Services Organization within HMH's Enterprise Solutions Group provides implementation services for our most sophisticated client and internal programs that include both our traditional educational and next generation technology products. The Professional Services Project Manager is responsible for directing one or more projects within the scope defined by the Director, VP or SVP. In this capacity he/she is responsible for on-time deliverables; accountable for business results of the projects/programs and manages others. He/she understands fundamentals of project management and can apply them to programs/job duties; manages programs/assignments autonomously; owns project/work plan and provides leadership for project team. This position typically supervises team leaders and/or a team of exempt professional individual contributors and associated support staff.
Project Management Established skills and knowledge within project management requiring integration of theory and practice.
Maintains a consolidated view of all projects/programs.
Ensures that every project is supported by end-to-end schedule, scope documents, and necessary data.
Provides leadership to staff in defining project/program roles and responsibilities.
Ensures that all information is transparent and reported without bias and in context at all times.
Focused on supervising technical/professional contributors to accomplish project objectives.
Oversees and manages a broad range of work that may require the interpretation of more complex and less clearly defined issues.
Performs work that requires a higher level of experience, or technical expertise than subordinates.
Professional Development Accountable for mentoring and guiding professional development of staff members to meet individual and organizational goals.
Develops and delivers recommendations on staff performance and development.
Instruction of team is limited to operational direction to achieve specific objectives/outcome.
Decisions tend to be tactical and with contained short-term impact to own area of responsibility.
Responsible for the delivery of functional operational excellence and department objectives, including resource allocation and utilization.
May participate in and provide input to organization-wide project teams.
May be required to make judgments that are outside established processes and procedures.
Proactively approaches others across the organization to seek/provide help and enhance one's own network of business relationships.
This individual demonstrates excellent organization and written and verbal communication skills and practical problem solving abilities.
May require up to 30% travel. Applicants may be located outside of identified location if the applicant is in a major city allowing for reasonable travel times via commercial airline.
Requirements:
Experience managing large scale systems integration, process improvement and organizational change management projects
Strong negotiation, communication, leadership, and supervisory skills.
High level of organization
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize
Excellent problem solving ability.
Ability to remain objective.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Project, Visio, SharePoint and understanding of other software applications as needed.
Required:
Bachelor's degree
10+ years project management and business work experience
PMP Certification
Preferred:
Master's or postgraduate degree
Familiar with HMH products and processes
Experience in K-12 Education
