Job Title: Director of Engineering - Navigation Reports To: VP of CoC Navigation
Supervisory Responsibilities: Manager in the new Harman Chicago facility (with up to 100 total employees) and will have direct-line management responsibility for approximately 10 engineers and 30 + indirect reports at this location. This position will report directly to the VP of COC Navigation.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead local COC engineering teams
- Be a key driver behind technology and people that create the legendary Harman navigation software that powers some of the most luxurious automotive brand names and is currently installed in millions of vehicles.
- Leverage existing navigation and management experience but also seek ways to improve the navigation module performance and capabilities.
- Participate in the design and architecture decisions and management in most components of a Navigation engine including address entry (geo-location), guidance, positioning (map matching), traffic, interfaces with the digital map and user interface modules
- Work with other local and remote experts to define, develop and deliver best in class navigation solutions
- As part of a Matrix organization work with engineers, designers, testers and other managers in multiple locations as needed to help integrate and productize your solution.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science.
- 5+ years Management experience. Must have led teams of at least 20 people before.
- 10+ years experience in professional software engineering having shipped several consumer grade products.
- 2-5 years of experience in C/C++ preferably with some exposure to Embedded systems.
- Must have domain engine and core navigation knowledge!
- Ability to design modules that will meet the requirements of today and scale to work in conjunction with modules adding new functionality in the future.
- Strong knowledge of Embedded device constraints and how to root cause or debug issues through the entire SW development life cycle.

- Must be technically hands on and have knowledge programming, developing software, must be passionate about programming
- Good team player, must have worked as part of medium or large size team
- Likes to distill complex problems into simple and elegant solutions
Eligibility Requirements:
- Willingness to travel 20% of the time
- Willingness to work in an office near Vernon Hills, IL
- Willingness to submit to a background screen and a drug test
