Senior Software Engineer- LBS Platform

Essential Responsibilities:
- Take lead responsibility for key functional areas of our location-based services (LBS) platform
- Work closely with the Platform Architect to assess technical design and overall technology roadmap for your respective area. Ensure we meet our scalability and performance objectives
- Work collaboratively with the rest of the organization to define protocols and overall system architecture and design
- Contribute LBS insight to the platform team on technical and architectural decisions
- Work with our off-shore development team on a daily basis
- Work closely with our QA lead to ensure we have appropriate test processes in place and they align with development roadmaps and release processes
- Stay up-to-date on trends in LBS, cloud computing and automotive head unit architectures

Basic Qualifications:
- Experience developing applications or services based on location-based concepts, such as digital maps, location indexing, location-based search, traffic information, routing and navigation
- Some experience with PostGIS, GDAL, Openlayers, geoserver or other open source GIS technologies
- Knowledge of RDBMs concepts, ability to diagnose/address SQL performance issues
- Experience in performance optimization of location-based functionality (search, geocoding, routing)
- Solid undestanding of OOD concepts and ability to apply them to solve software design issues.
- Experience integrating with 3rd party LBS APIs (ie. Google, Yelp)
- Knowledge of RESTful, JSON and/or XML interfaces
- Minimum 3 years experience developing Java applications., preferably with J2EE and Apache Tomcat
- Experience with Unix systems, specifically Linux
- Track record of strong troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
- Strong communications skills; ability to work cross functionally and with geographically distributed teams
- BS Computer Science/Engineering required, MS strongly preferred.
- Proficient in English

Desired Characteristics:
- Experience with Open Street Maps, Navtech and or TeleAtlas maps
- Experience working with Amazon Web Services or other cloud-based hosting environments is a plus.
- Familiarity with database architectures
- Prior professional exposure to the automotive industry
- Mix of entrepreneurial and mid/large company experience

Eligibility Requirements:
- Willingness to travel ~15% of the time
- Willingness to work in an office in Vernon Hills, Illinois
- Willingness to submit to a background screen and a drug test
