Scope of Work:

The Certified Hand Therapist evaluates and treats patients and communicates with physicians, family members/caregivers and other professionals involved in the management of care for those patients. This person maintains documentation on treatment provided in the medical chart and through written reports and participates in clinic meetings.

Skills Required:

  • Current state license as an Occupational Therapist (OT) or Physical Therapist (PT) or proactively in the process of the application process for current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT) or Physical Therapist (PT).
  • Current Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Develop a plan of care for each physical therapy patient.
  • Provide skilled occupational therapy services/interventions in accordance with physician orders.
  • Assesses patient needs, plans for, evaluates and modifies care to meet goals of occupational therapy interventions.
  • Must be able to do custom static and dynamic splinting, assessment of injuries and immediate post-op cases, and make clinical suggestions to hand surgeon during follow-ups; use of all modalities, therapeutic exercise programs, and patient education are essential.
