Overview: Summary:
The Network Engineer oversees the design, installation, documentation and maintenance of the client's network environment.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Design/develop the network infrastructure for client's as directed by the client's IT Businesses supporting the current growth in the ASP environment. The infrastructure will be updated as required by upgrades and new business requirements for the network equipment and/or configuration. This is to include any Datacenter network infrastructure as well as Customer CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) as appropriate.
- Produce the design documentation to include work instructions and Standard Repeatable Actions (SRAs) to the current client's ASP standard
- Oversee implementation(s) to ensure all design objectives are met and in line with the approved specifications.
- Conform to all ASP SOPs, Change Control and Policy and procedures.
- Develops and recommends strategies for network growth, security, and enhancements
- Maximizes functionality of network equipment such as Routers, Firewalls, Switches, load balancers, proxies, cyclades and VPN appliances
- Performs advanced network analysis, monitoring, testing, and capacity planning for organization's LAN/WAN environment
- Responsible for network designs, installations and tests to support Internet and other data transport channels across LAN/WAN environment
- Develops and administers network backup and recovery plans
- Performs various network projects as needed or assigned
- Acts as Level 2/3 support for ASP trouble tickets.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 5+ years experience as a LAN/WAN engineer or equivalent experience
- Advanced knowledge of CISCO equipment (Routers, Switches, ASA series), routing protocols (BGP,OPSF, EIGRP)
- Advanced experience with Security, Layer Two & Three Switching, VLAN, VPNs
- Advanced experience with WAN technologies such as MPLS, SONET, eWAN, DS3, T1s, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of network load balancing technologies (F5)
- Familiarity with appliance-based network applications: VPN appliances, Proxy Servers, network monitoring tools (Cisco ASAs, Cisco LMS, Sitescope, Cisco WLSE, etc.)
- In-depth knowledge of Checkpoint & Palo Alto strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Redundancy (Spanning Tree, VRRP)
- Knowledge of network design, monitoring & security best practices
- Strong documentation and verbal communication skills
