Responsibilities

The Ground Based SSA (Space Situation Awareness) Network Communications Engineer will provide engineering support to the AF Space Superiority Systems Directorate (SY) in support of Ground Based Space Surveillance sensors (GBSS). Duties include systems engineering for all networks and C2 (Command and Control) systems to radar and telescope sensors, developing long term architecture and ensuring that the integration of all programs and projects are consistent with the plans. Of particular focus are the following sensors, but not limited to: Eglin Radar, C Band Radar Australia, and C Band Radar Ascension for radar systems, SST (Space Surveillance Telescope, and GEODSS (Ground-Based Electro-Optical Deep Space Surveillance) for telescope systems. The duties include evolving the strategic planning of Space Situation Awareness (SSA) network architecture with the government customers in Colorado Springs and in El Segundo.

This position can be filled as a Level 2: Project Engineer or as a Level 3: Sr. Project Engineer. This position can be located in Colorado Springs, CO or El Segundo, CA.

The selected candidate will demonstrate clear written and oral communication skills. They will have the ability to interact effectively with the Engineering & Technology Group (ETG), Air Force, SETAs, other FFRDCs, and contractor personnel.

Key Functions

  • Ensure interfaces between inter- and intra-SY programs are clearly defined and consistent with each side s architecture modeling, simulation, and analysis; developing future SSA concepts, strategies, and architectures
  • Perform risk assessments and identify technology development as necessary
  • Briefings and strategic plans are to be developed as required, as well as mentoring customers
  • This position requires travel with current expectations up to 10%

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for Level 2: Project Engineer: Network Communications

  • B.S. in engineering or related technical discipline
  • 8 or more years of experience that includes one or more of the following: systems architecture, systems engineering, network and/OR C2 ground system disciplines
  • Must have experience working with minimum supervision and interacting effectively with coworkers from other organizations, groups or companies
  • Current TS security clearance with ability to obtain SCI access
  • Ability to travel as needed as needed

Required Qualifications for Level 3: Sr. Project Engineer: Network Communications

  • B.S. in engineering or related technical discipline
  • 12 or more years of directly related experience that includes one or more of the following: systems architecture, systems engineering, network and/OR C2 ground system disciplines
  • Experience working with minimum supervision and interacting effectively with coworkers from other organizations, groups or companies
  • Current TS security clearance with ability to obtain SCI access
  • Ability to travel as needed as needed

Preferred

  • SCI security clearance in El Segundo, CA
  • Experience in network architecture modeling, simulation and analyses
  • Experience in DOD acquisition experience desired, including RFP development and source selections
  • Experience with programs/projects in the Space Superiority mission area
  • Experience in SSA concepts, strategies and architectures
  • Current SMC/SY program clearance(s)
  • Familiarity with Engineering & Technology Group (ETG) network and terrestrial communications capabilities
  • Experience working on at least one DOD space or ground program
