Monitoring Engineering supports operational excellence at GTO, providing valuable insight into MetLife's digital ecosystem for our stakeholders across Application Development, Service Operations, and Engineering. We deliver performance data about infrastructure, applications, and the network through analytics driven technologies and strategic platforms. We're looking for a Senior Monitoring Engineer that has a passion for staying abreast and ahead of relevant technologies, enabling the success of our stakeholders by delivering solutions that meet or exceed their requirements, and driving change within Monitoring Engineering and the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The individual in this role will bring expertise in design, build and implementation of robust, reliable monitoring solutions for GTO
  • This role will support engineering efforts to improve visibility into application, platform, and operational performance by supporting Application Performance Management (APM) and Log/Machine Data Analytics capabilities
  • This position will work with other team members to expand and support capabilities for these services and grow them within the organization
  • The qualified candidate will have strong documentation and presentation skills, and will be expected to produce white papers, develop project requests when required for new technologies, and promote the team's mission through active outreach presentations and other mediums
  • The Senior Monitoring Engineer will provide thought leadership for the team and serve as a mentor for junior team members

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 10+ years working with multiple monitoring platforms and methodologies
  • 5+ years working with leading APM provider AppDynamics or Splunk; both are desirable and comparable experience is okay
  • 5+ years architecting and deploying new platforms or major upgrades
  • 5+ years giving presentations to management and peers
  • 3+ years of team leadership experience supporting a team of engineers charged with designing, implementing, maintaining, and administering enterprise systems
  • 3+ years working in Operations or comparable experience, demonstrating awareness of stakeholder business needs
  • 1+ years working with automation tools or understanding of automation principals and methodologies
  • Strong Scripting skills, some application development experience would be beneficial


  • Strong written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to partner with multiple stakeholders with a broad range of needs and requirements
  • Experience preparing presentations and white papers for management
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps concepts
  • Significant experience with technical innovation
