OVERVIEW:

The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees. OIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies.

ABOUT THE JOB DETAILS:

This is advanced technical services work in an integrated computer network environment located in the Bangor area. Travel is required.

You will have an exciting opportunity to work on a full range of system administration functions with minimal direction and/or technical support.

You will be on a super high performing team with highly skilled IT professionals to support multi-user work groups crossing functional unit lines and this will include a full range of multi-user network operating system administration responsibilities.

Responsibilities include installing and configuring system hardware, software, and communication network equipment; performing advanced troubleshooting and vendor technical liaison functions; and assisting in developing information management plans, researching and designing systems to implement plans, and developing and coordinating user training programs.

Supervision may be exercised over lower level technical personnel. Work is performed under limited supervision. Team work is essential. We all help each other, regardless of our roles, thus a multi-technical skilled candidate with a diverse background in systems is preferred, and consideration will be provided to a candidate with knowledge of our State of Maine systems.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

* Performs a full range of system administration functions to control systems and attain maximum utilization and efficiency.

* Designs and implements system security measures such as backups, access control, system accounting, and disaster recovery to ensure and maintain system integrity and availability.

* Participates in the development and implementation of agency information system policy to establish agency operating standards and procedures.

* Develops, coordinates, and conducts agency-wide training programs to provide agency personnel with required skills and knowledge of system capabilities.

* Researches, recommends, installs, and configures hardware, software, and networks for PC's/servers with multi-user operating and/or networking systems to establish and maintain agency information systems.

* Performs fault isolation and repairs in a complex computing/networking environment independently or in consultation with vendor or other technical personnel to diagnose and correct system problems.

* Participates in the development of internal data management plans and coordinates plans and activities with personnel of other agencies in order to avoid duplication of efforts, share information, and maximize system efficiency.

* Participates in the planning, implementation, and management of special projects in order to develop project management skills and provide assistance in achieving agency information systems objectives.

* Directs and oversees the work of system support staff to ensure work is accomplished in an efficient and effective manner. Ensures travel is directly related to work assignments to ensure maximum efficiency.

* Customer Service skills and abilities to methodically assist a client with technical support.

* Provides full user support for agency's standard application software in order to meet user/agency needs.

* Directly oversees the ordering and management of client technologies regional stock equipment in order to maximize customer service and minimize cost.

* Ability to perform work requiring lifting up to 50 lbs. and/or physical exertion may be required.

* This work may require crawling, climbing, kneeling, and the ability to grasp small objects with both hands.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Six (6) years experience performing system administration functions in a LAN/WAN environment -OR- an Associates Degree from an accredited educational institution in computer information systems or directly related field and four (4) years experience performing system administration functions in a LAN/WAN environment -OR- a Bachelors Degree from an accredited educational institution in computer information systems or directly related field and two (2) years experience performing system administration functions in a LAN/WAN environment.

JOB CLASS CODE: 0931 PAY GRADE: 23 SALARY: $42,910.40 - $58,073.60/annually*

*Includes a 15% recruitment and retention salary adjustment and eligibility for a 5% annual training bonus

The value of States share of Employees Retirement: 15.12% of salary for BU positions. The value of State-paid Dental Insurance: $13.13 biweekly. The value* of State-paid Health Insurance:

* Level 1: 100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing): $427.57 biweekly

* Level 2: 95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%): $406.19 biweekly

* Level 3: 90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%): $384.81 biweekly

* Level 4: 85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%): $363.43 biweekly

*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employees wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
