Enterprise Database Services team is seeking a Relational Database Technology Lead Architect to play a key role in the team's transformative agenda. This role will lead the team in evaluating and leveraging relational database technologies to provide scalable and cost effective solutions. We are looking for an associate who has strong database background with expertise in database design, development and maintenance activities and technology fit assessment. This role will have key strategic and tactical responsibilities to evolve our Relational database platform and capabilities to support Kroger business use cases on premise, hybrid as well as cloud platforms.Position Summary: Level 3 technical expertise to lead technical troubleshooting and give consultation to development teams. Lead technology fit assessment and design database solutions for critical applications Provide guidance to Database technology teams to capture Database Health & Wellness metrics and perform Capacity Planning activities. Provide guidance to Database tech leads to refine Reference Architectures based on new technology capabilities Strong ITIL Skills (Problem Management/Incident Management/Change Management etc.) Ability to lead triages to address database performance or disaster scenarios Work with cross functional team to ensure that Database Security is maintained on all platforms Establish and maintain sound Database backup and recovery policies and procedures. Build effective partnerships with internal/external stakeholders and suppliers to drive innovation in Kroger Manage Vendor relationship to evaluate product roadmap and Kroger database solution needs are met Lead database team during estimation, design, development, installation, performance and documentation of our Relational Database technology solutions Work with database leads and infrastructure teams to manage and optimize database licensing as per agreements Provide coaching and performance feedback to team members in a lead capacity Willingness to provide customer and system support on a rotating 24 x 7 basis. Good understanding of underlying operating system, storage technologies, memory management, disk arrays, NAS/SAN, networking is needed to effectively lead database technology teams in performing their job functions. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skillset required. Ability to work within a cross functional team environment required. Ability to self-prioritize workload and manage deadlines effectively required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Prior Experience: Installation, configuration and upgrading Oracle, SQL Server, UDB, Open Source relational technologies like MYSQL, PostgreSQL etc. and its related products. Evaluate Capability and function of Relational database technology features and its related products. Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges). Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures. Performed Capacity Planning activities Database tuning and performance monitoring. Application tuning and performance monitoring. Hands on experience in Database design and implementation. Setup and maintain documentation and standards. Interface with Product Vendor for technical support. Performed activities in Problem Management/Incident Management/Change Management areas

Essential Job Functions:
  • Facilitate technology strategy and roadmap to support project portfolio and business strategy.
  • Define engineering and engineering process standards for the given discipline.
  • Assist in architecting and designing technology discipline solutions for projects with infrastructure technical engineers.
  • Perform technical problem solving for technology issues.
  • Develop and maintain deployed technology list for each infrastructure discipline.
  • Develop and maintain detailed architecture documentation for medium to large complex systems. Architect and design technology discipline high availability architecture frameworks.
  • Evaluate vendor technical and support capabilities.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
  • 6 - 8 years of professional experience in: information management initiatives, delivering large-scale complex systems solutions, or support and/or engineering for the specific technical discipline: security, database, network, collaboration, desktop, storage, backup/recovery, Mainframe platforms, UNIX platforms, AS/400 platforms, Windows platforms, web engineering, Citrix, directory services, and integration (EAI, batch and Real Time solutions).
  • Collaborative problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate information to customers and to all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments concurrently while maintaining high levels of quality and effectiveness.
  • Ability to effectively mentor and coach related to system component interdependence.
  • Experience with application and/or infrastructure technologies commonly leveraged to support large-scale, multi-platform enterprise environments and distributed systems across diverse domestic geographies.
  • Effective facilitator of technical decisions.
  • Knowledge of multiple architecture styles and their implications
Desired Previous Job Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in IS or related equivalent work experience in an Information Systems position.
  • 2 - 4 years in a Technology Architect position.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic implementations.
  • Ability to think in the abstract, with the ability to understand multiple facets of complex technologies.
