Noctua Technology is seeking a Senior Software Architect to serve as a technical linchpin for our most complex cloud-native and hybrid projects. In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level architectural vision and hands-on engineering excellence. You will lead the design and implementation of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) environments, air-gapped infrastructure, and mission-critical landing zones.

Description

Location : Primarily Remote. Preference for candidates based in/near San Diego, CA or Northern VA/DC/Maryland due to occasional in-person team or client meetings.

Security Clearance Requirement: This position requires an active Secret security clearance or above. Applicants must be US citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain the required clearance level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Technical Leadership and Architecture
    • Lead the architectural design of scalable cloud solutions, ensuring alignment with long-term mission goals and security requirements.
    • Define reference architectures for cloud landing zones, establishing comprehensive blueprints for secure, scalable, and cost-optimized cloud environments across major providers
    • Optimize technical architectures for mission-critical applications and their supporting cloud environments, focusing on performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Software Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
    • Implement SRE best practices, building advanced observability stacks and automating incident response.
    • Lead the development of custom tooling and reusable accelerators to automate complex operational workflows.
    • Design for resilience - engineer self-healing systems and disaster recovery protocols for disconnected or air-gapped environments.
  • Consulting Services and Customer Engagement
    • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for client discussions on cloud strategy, architecture, cost optimization, security, and compliance.
    • Support pre-sales technical solutioning and contribute to statements of work (SOWs), level-of-effort estimates, and architecture proposals.
    • Lead or support Authority to Operate (ATO) efforts by producing documentation, providing security input, and interfacing with client security teams.
  • Leadership and Knowledge Sharing
    • Proactively identify areas for improvement and innovation in cloud operations and service delivery.
    • Create and maintain architecture artifacts, operations playbooks, and reusable accelerators for internal and external use.
    • Share expertise through internal knowledge transfers, training sessions, and documentation.
    • Mentor and grow junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, architectural whiteboard, and technical workshops.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Cloud Architecture, and/or DevOps/SRE roles.
  • Proven track record of building complex, modular infrastructure at scale.
  • Expert-level Kubernetes experience, including service mesh and advanced networking.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or Go, with the ability to build production-grade applications and automation tools.
  • Experience leading technical workstreams or serving as a Team Lead on large projects.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience authoring or contributing to ATO packages and system security documentation.
  • Experience with Zero Trust architectures and hardware security
  • Prior consulting or public sector experience strongly preferred.
  • One or more of the following certifications:
    • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect
    • Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer
    • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Network Engineer
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect
    • Azure Solutions Architect Expert
    • Certified Kubernetes Administrator
