Overview

The IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI) is one of three federally funded research and development centers operated by the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA). STPI provides analytical support to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), NASA, and other federal agencies on science and technology (S&T) policy issues.

STPI is currently seeking candidates for a Research Analyst position. The organization takes pride in the high caliber and timeliness of its analyses, which are produced in an atmosphere that encourages independent thinking to achieve objective results. Work at STPI often involves multidisciplinary research in diverse teams and the staff works closely with and regularly interacts with federal sponsors.

Responsibilities

STPI's work in the aerospace domain focuses on analyzing the United States' space technology and policy environment as well as that of other emerging and established spacefaring nations. The Research Analyst will work with OSTP, federal agencies, and inter-agency committees and staff to envision, coordinate, and evaluate national initiatives and policies related to space and aerospace S&T policies. The Research Analyst must understand the policy needs of federal agencies active in aerospace.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in space policy and regulatory analysis or space law, as well as a record of scholarship in their field.
  • Able to work in an unstructured environment and to work on a diverse portfolio of policy issues in aerospace and other science and technology areas.
  • Training and/or experience researching and writing about aerospace technology and policy.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills are essential.
  • Experience facilitating teams with diverse interests and goals
  • Demonstrated innovative thinking and problem resolution.
  • Able to present ideas, concepts and theories orally and in writing.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance.
